How Senior Placement Advisors Are Paid, and How We Are
You deserve a plain-English answer before you trust anyone with a decision this important.
The short answer
Families do not pay us. When a family chooses an assisted living or memory care community we introduced, that community may pay us a one-time referral fee. The fee does not change the rent you pay.
What Florida law says
Florida generally prohibits assisted living facilities from paying commissions or kickbacks for referrals; violations are treated as patient brokering. The law makes an exception for payments to a referral service that helps consumers find care or housing, if the referred residents are not Medicaid recipients (section 429.195, Florida Statutes).
If your loved one is on Medicaid
We still help. We do not accept a referral fee for Medicaid recipients. We’ll explain how Florida’s Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care program works, connect you with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida’s Elder Helpline at 1-866-413-5337, and point you toward communities that accept Medicaid.
Our promises
- We tell you which communities we have referral agreements with, if you ask.
- You can consider any community, including ones we don’t work with.
- We recommend based on care needs, budget and fit, not fee size.
- We show you how to check every community’s state inspection record.
Questions to ask any placement advisor
- Who pays you, and how much?
- Do you have agreements with every community you’re recommending?
- What happens if we choose a community you didn’t mention?
- How do you help families who are on Medicaid?
- Will you share our information with communities before we agree to it?
